Clear
Lensectomy
For those patients that don’t qualify for Lasik or PRK, due to
having a high nearsighted or farsighted prescription, and/or corneas
that are too thin, we offer the option of Clear Lensectomy.
Clear Lensectomy, or Clear Lens Extraction, involves the removal
of the clear lens of your eye, even though it is not a cataract.
(A cataract is a lens that is hazy, yellowed, and/or has opacities
within it. Most
cataracts are present due to aging factors.)
The natural lens inside the eye is removed and replaced with
an artificial implant, called an intra-ocular lens, in order
to attempt to correct your farsightedness or nearsightedness.
The power of this intra-ocular
lens is calculated carefully in order to give you the most
distance correction. There are occasions where Lasik and/or
PRK are needed after the lensectomy
in order to fine tune and better fully correct vision. This
additional Laser surgery fee is typically included in our
lensectomy fees.
Although this procedure can theoretically improve your natural
distance vision, your close vision will require additional
glasses for reading and any other close-up work.
The main benefit of this surgery includes the ability to
function significantly better and with a much decreased
prescription than prior to the lensectomy.
Should you decide to have the surgery, you will undergo
a complete eye examination at Colorado Laser Surgeons
and Omni Eye Specialists,
our sister center that specializes in cataract surgery.
We offer complimentary consultations for Clear Lensectomy
to assess whether you are a good candidate for this
procedure and to thoroughly discuss the benefits
and risk factors of this surgery.
