LASIK
See our schematic QuickTime Lasik Movie
Lasik is a refractive procedure that is used to help correct
nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Unlike PRK,
in Lasik a hinged partial thickness
corneal flap is created, and lifted. It is on the exposed surface
that the cool excimer laser does its sculpting in order to
change the curvature of your cornea, in order for you not
to be so dependent on glasses or contact lenses.
Once the laser treatment is complete, the hinged flap is replaced,
adhering in less than a minute. Since there is no abrasion,
or open wound, created, there is very little discomfort.
Your vision noticeably improves
within minutes of the procedure and within a week its full
effect is realized. Medicated eye drops are typically used
only for a few days. Moisture eye
drops are used for about 6 months due to Colorado’s drier
climate.

There are now two options with Lasik: Traditional Lasik
and Wavefront Lasik. Traditional Lasik is the Lasik that
has been approved for the last
few years and customizes the procedure to the prescription.
Wavefront Lasik is a more customized procedure where the laser is
not only customized to the prescription, but also
customized to the
patient’s visual system.
See Wavefront Lasik for a description of the differences
between these two procedures.
