Is
Refractive Surgery Right for You?
An evaluation is certainly needed by Colorado Laser Surgeons or
your eye care provider in order to determine your candidacy for refractive
surgery.
Some of the key considerations used to determine candidacy
are:
- Medical Health
- Medications
- Eye health
- Pupil size
- Corneal Thickness
- Corneal Topography
Maps – Front and Back surfaces of the cornea
- Strength
of Prescription
- Lifestyle and Occupation
Each of these criteria will be discussed with you thoroughly
at the time of your complimentary consultation at
our center. You will need to "pass" all of the criteria in
order to be considered for Laser surgery.
The following questions are helpful in pre-determining
your overall candidacy.
If the answer to any of the following is YES,
you may possibly NOT be a candidate for refractive
surgery.
- Do you have and active collagen vascular
disease like rheumatoid arthritis or
Lupus Erythrematosis?
- Are you a diabetic that is poorly controlled
or has diabetic changes inside your
eye on the retina?
- Have you been diagnosed with
Sarcoidosis?
- Are you taking Acutane (acne medication)?
- Are
you taking Amiodorone, Pavorone, or Cordiarone for
your heart?
- Do you take blood thinning medications
such as Coumadin, Plavix, Warfarin?
- Do
you have a cataract?
- Do you have macular degeneration?
- Do
you have glaucoma?
- Do you have chronic severely
dry eyes?
- Do you have a corneal
dystrophy
such as Fuch’s dystrophy, Keratoconus,
Pellucid marginal degeneration?
- Do you have optic
nerve disease?
- Have you had any eyelid surgery
within the last year?
- Have you had any serious eye infections
within the
last year?
- Are you within six months of having chemotherapy?
- Do
you have chronic fatigue syndrome?
- Do you have multiple
sclerosis?
- Are you pregnant or nursing?
- Do you have
an uncontrolled seizure
disorder?
- Are you an organ recipient?
- Are you HIV positive?
